Notes of Meeting
USS Jefferson City Submarine Committee
October 12, 2020; 5:30 p.m.
City Hall - 320 E. McCarty Street
Boone Bancroft Conference Room
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Hal Dulle called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL:
Committee Members present: Hal Dulle, Stephen Sampson, Bob Priddy, and Patrick Bonnot. Council
liaison David Kemna was also in attendance.
Committee Members absent: Ivan Turner, Marti Thruston, Michael Ryno, and Lori Rosberg.
A quorum was not present.
ATTENDEES:
Staff: City Administrator Steve Crowell was in attendance. Mayor Tergin was also in attendance.
3. APPROVAL OF THE AUGUST 14, 2019 MEETING MINUTES:
Since there was not a quorum of members present, the minutes were reviewed, but not approved.
4. OLD BUSINESS:
Conference Call with USS Jefferson City Submarine Representatives
Commander Steven Dawley, incoming Commander Joe McDowell, and Chief of the Boat Senior Chief
Mark Szymanski were on a conference call with the committee members and other attendees present.
Commander Steven Dawley gave a brief overview of the status of the USS Jefferson City. In addition to
some operational issues presented, Commander Dawley note that some of the crew members were
impacted by COVID 19, which necessitated having crew members from other crews supplement the USS
Jefferson City crew.
Commander Joe McDowell introduced himself to the committee. Commander McDowell indicated he
looked forward to working with the USS Jefferson City Submarine Committee, keeping the committee
informed of the boat’s status and progress. Commander McDowell indicated that he thought the USS
Jefferson City would be stationed in Guam and the near future.
When asked if there was something the City could provide for the boat, Captain Dawley said a picture of
the Capitol or the City Seal would be appreciated.
No action was necessary.

NEXT MEETING DATE:
The next meeting of the USS Jefferson City Submarine Committee was not scheduled.
ADJOURNMENT:
Meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
