As 25 year Truckee residents (and local voter), I approve of your proposed STIR ordinance. In the section
on occupancy limits, I suggest eliminating the exclusion of young children. They take spaces in cars,
contributing to the large number of cars; they make noise; and they trespass on our property.
We did not buy a house to live next door to a hotel—out by 11 and the next party in by 3. Please
consider the following additions:
1. Consider an annual limit of the number of days a house can be rented.
2. Consider limiting rentals to houses used by owners at least part-time (i.e. no buying houses to
use primarily as rental properties. I think San Francisco has done this). A house used exclusively
by short-term renters is a hotel!
3. Consider a limitation on the number of STRs in a given neighborhood. I believe Pacific Grove has
done this.
4. Use a portion of the registration fees or fines to have an instant response capability for
egregious rule violations. The police have other functions—so this would require other staff.
5. Adding requirements that rental platforms must impose to be able to operate in Truckee.
As Tahoe Donner residents,we have witnessed the overcrowding of many STIR rentals. Do not consider
exclusion of HOAs from your rules. Rentals in TD do not pay fees to TD and they contribute a
considerable portion of the Town's TOT revenue.
