Several of these new rules are common sense regulations that should apply to ALL properties-not just those renting to so-called"short-term renters".Targeting short-term
rental properties for such requirements and not ALL properties is inherently unfair and pushes the boundaries of credibility. As far as the requirement that a contact person
reside within 60 minutes of the property, this seems like a patently punitive measure to retaliate against Sacramento and Bay Area owners. What exactly is this local contact
person supposed to accomplish that the police could not? This measure would force non-local owners to cede control of their properties to third-party managers and further
reduce any income from short-term rentals. Local animosity toward Bay Area"outsiders"should not dictate public policy. Regarding the registration fee, this is nothing more
than a money grab. Short-term rental properties are already required to register with the town and pay local taxes. What is the purpose of this fee?How would the added
funds be used?Such a fee is just another punitive tax to punish property owners.I'd also like to know whether this registration fee would be scaled for owners that rent their
homes infrequently versus those renting their property continuously. Why should I,who only rents my property a few times a year, pay the same registration fee as a property
owner that rents their property year-round?I would like to know who is lobbying for this ordinance. Are local hoteliers or property managers behind this initiative in an
attempt to line their pockets?Lastly,I would like to know whether any members of the Town Council, their friends,or family will benefit financially if this ordinance is passed
and fewer private residence are available for short-term rental.Would each Town Council member be willing to state on the record that they will not benefit financially? This
poorly conceived ordinance should be defeated!
