I own a home in Tahoe Donner, however, my two adult children, due to work considerations did not have time to review and respond as well. I feel that there is a blatant unfairness and discrimination against owners who also rent their homes as short term rentals. I rent ONLY in the summer months with the exception of rental between Christmas and New Years. To date, the number of annual nights rented is almost the same every year at 30 nights. Our home has approximately 2600 sq feet, is two story. We rent almost entirely to families with children and grandparents. Tahoe Donner used to be a very nice place for families with children as it was reasonably priced. With recent guest fee increases, as well as increases for those property services now as high as they are in the Bay Area. Our home becomes a less feasible rental both for the young families of the past as well as for us to maintain. In a number of ways I subsidize present permanent residents. We have NEVER had a problem with any renter at our home. I manage our summer rentals. It will be difficult and expensive to hire a management firm simply to be available on a 24 hour basis to be onsite within 60 minutes. My daughter and family live in Reno, however, as anon camera news anchor she could not walk off her job immediately to arrive in Truckee, approximately 60 min drive from her station. Her husband also has a media related job, but would need to come with his 3 children if at night. Are all permanent residents able to walk off theirjob and be home in 60 minutes should any problem develop with their home? Your new guidelines, in other respects will be very difficult for us. We have large bedrooms and, at present, can accommodate 12 persons. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs, a very large bedroom upstairs (467 sq feet) and an upstairs loft (240 sq ft). All bedrooms and loft have drawers for clothing. All four bedrooms have a closet as well. The loft currently has one single bed, drawers, but no closet. To date, we have abided by all TD Rules/Covenants. We have always had smoke detectors in all bedrooms and other living areas. Your proposed annual new TOT fees inspections seem to be "over the top". I hope, in fairness, that all residents will be required to have the same annual inspections and fees that you require of us due to our combined annual 30 days of rentals. In the September 2020 issue of Tahoe Donner News I have reviewed, for the first time, complaints and problems at Tahoe Donner. (pages 26-27.) It certainly does not seem like the Short Term Rentals are the cause of most of the problems, rather, full time residents cause many problems as well that are detailed on these pages. We do not feel that Tahoe Donner is treating us fairly. Our family, in the next year has decided to review other areas in which to have a home. TD is no longer the casual, nice places for families to vacation that it used to be.
