SUMMARY STATEMENT: The COPS School Resource Officer (SRO) grant would allow MPD to dedicate an Officer to local school concerns. The officer would be a liaison between
the police department and the school officials, students and their parents. The officer would work as a highly visible officer on the school grounds. This position will also include
the responsibilities of a sworn officer during the summer months.
The grant funds $125,000 over a three year period. The local match during the grant period is zero for the first
year, $2,000 for the second year and $4,217 for the third year. The McCall Donnelly School District has agreed to commit $3000 per year during the grant period toward this position.
In the fourth year the program will be evaluated by the School District and the City for effectiveness and a formula for cost sharing will be negotiated. The anticipated personnel
costs in the fourth year is approximately $51,211.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the Police Department applying for the SRO Grant and authorize the mayor to sign the application
paperwork.
