HomeMy Public PortalAboutPublic Comment - Susie Sutphin (2)1
Hi Dave,
It was suggested to me that I follow‐up with council members re. my Public Comment to the Master Plan. I am not in
town so I am not able to attend the meeting tonight and speak on behalf of my comment but grateful a request can be
made in my absence.
If a specific action can be taken on my comment…I would like for the town to make Local Food Systems and
Regenerative Agriculture an initiative for the Master Plan. If adopted as initiative, next steps would be to create an
action plan with goals and objectives. I see this as a great new program for Keep Truckee Green. It would give consumers
tips about all the ways they can support local farms and how regenerative ag is one of the best ways to mitigate climate
change. Educating our community to this fact could have huge positive effects. As consumers, we are limited to what we
can do to fight climate change. And with recycling becoming less and less of a means, we need progressive new avenues
to do our part. And how we buy our food is one of them. This is not a PR bit for the food hub. We would be just one
piece of it. There would be talk about farmers markets, Slow Food Lake Tahoe’s community garden, Mountain Bounty’s
CSA program, etc. I truly believe that if more people understand the power of our food to fight climate change, more
people would make more conscientious buying decisions. We could have a Consumer Challenge for the residents of
Truckee and use those stats when promoting Base Camp for Life and getting funds for economic development projects. I
could go on and on.
Thank you for your consideration!
Susie
