Council members and staff, This comment is regarding the vague and problematic language surrounding housing in the general plan, and other town documents and communications. One example would be this sentence in the Joerger ranch section of the land use element: "... housing for 50 percent of the very low, low, and moderate income workforce..." In our community, where even McDonald's starts their workers above $20 per hour, county restricted very -low and low income persons are, by definition, not part of the workforce. As someone who wants to see more housing for people who actually have jobs and work in Truckee, it is infuriating to see the terms "workforce housing", "low income housing", and "Affordable Housing" used interchangeably, sometimes in the same sentence. Community members, town representatives, and the state of California all have different ideas on the meaning of these terms, and the lack of specificity leads to mistrust and a sense of "bait and switch", as we've seen with the new tax -credit housing developments. I would like the town to provide a definition of terms as relates to housing, particularly the term "workforce housing", and use those definitions in town planning documents. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the types of housing that are appropriate for Truckee. Clearly defining your terms will allow for educated debate and informed public participation in the future. Do you have reference documents to upload?* Yes No
