This comment concerns the council's decision to postpone final adoption of the 2040 general plan until the May 9th meeting, in order to give community stakeholders more time to propose minor changes. I hope these comments will be considered as part of those changes. In a prior letter to the town regarding the 2040 plan, I expressed frustration at inconsistent language regarding workforce, "Affordable", and low income housing in the document. The response I received (thank you) stated that the town does differentiate between the different types of housing, and generally refers to the definitions used by the mountain housing council when discussing these terms. Per the MHC website, "affordable housing" is "residences restricted to those making below 60% AMI", while "workforce housing" is "often limited to those who do not otherwise qualify for subsidized rental or for -sale housing, but who may still have difficulty affording market rate housing." The clear difference in these types of housing, if the town is using MHC definitions, adds to my frustration when I see the terms used interchangeably in town documents. In reading the general plan, sections where the terms seem to be used interchangeably include LU 2.B, LU 6.7, and LU 7.4. I would like to see this language cleaned up in the final document, ideally focusing on workforce housing, as I believe that this is where most constituents would prefer the town focus their efforts.
