HomeMy Public PortalAboutEnergy Awareness MonthTown of Truckee PROCLAMATION Truckee, California WHEREAS, October is National Energy Awareness Month and October 5th was Energy Efficiency Day; and WHEREAS, The Truckee Town Council has identified the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and becoming a leader in environmental sustainability as one of its top five priorities; and WHEREAS, the Town of Truckee has committed to reducing its GHG emissions 80 percent below 2008 levels by 2040, achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2030, and achieving 100% renewable energy by 2050; and WHEREAS, 59 percent of Truckee’s GHG emissions, according to the 2016 GHG emission inventory, are a product of building energy use; and WHEREAS, the Town has launched a Municipal Emissions Tracking Dashboard, in partnership with nZero, to track and reduce emissions from Truckee’s municipal operations; and WHEREAS, the Town is exploring a building reach code, in addition to enhanced energy efficiency incentive and education opportunities, to improve building energy efficiency; and WHEREAS, the Town of Truckee is partnering with the Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) to expand existing home weatherization and energy efficiency incentives to all TDPUD customers; and WHEREAS, improved energy efficiency will contribute to the health and financial vitality of the Truckee community. Now, therefore, be it proclaimed, by the Mayor of the Town of Truckee that October is National Energy Awareness Month.
