A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
AUTHORIZING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TO
APPLY FOR THE COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE
CITY OF LYNWOOD
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood continues to seek funding to offset its law
enforcement efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice announced the availability of funding
under the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP); and
WHEREAS, cities contracting for law enforcement services are prohibited from
competing for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the CHRP grant will fund entry level salaries and benefits for three
years for each awarded position; and
WHEREAS, for the first three years of the grant, the City would be obligated to
pay the difference between entry level salaries and benefits and the Sheriff's grant rate,
or $315,000 total for the three-year obligation to the grant; and
WHEREAS, per grant stipulations all positions funded by this grant would have to
be retained for a fourth year to complete the City's obligation in the amount of $450,000
for year four; and
WHEREAS, the City's four year obligation to this grant would total $765,000; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of the City of Lynwood the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department has agreed to apply for funding on behalf of the city.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LYNWOOD AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The CHRP grant would provide entry level salaries and benefits for
three years for each awarded position.
Section 2. The City authorizes the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
to apply for CHRP funding on behalf of the City of Lynwood.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
