Additional Candidate for Vacant Council Seat to Be Considered
Leesburg, VA (January 9, 2017) – At this evening’s special organizational meeting of the
Leesburg Town Council, Josh Thiel will be included among the candidates for consideration of
appointment as an interim council member. The other four candidates are Jed Babbin, Rusty
Foster, Hugh Forsythe and Gwen Pangle.
Over the weekend, Council members recognized that there was a miscommunication that had
occurred with the scoring system used to rank all interested candidates. As a result, Mr. Thiel
accepted an invitation to join the group of finalist candidates to make a presen tation to Council.
Each of the five finalists will make a brief presentation at Council’s organizational meeting
tonight that starts at 5:00pm at Town Hall in Council Chambers. Each candidate will address
three questions as follows: (1) Why are you interested in filling the vacant seat on Town
Council? (2) What unique skills or experience do you offer? (3) What are the top three priorities
you think Council should be focused on over the next two years?
In addition to the potential appointment of an interim Council member, the organizational
meeting includes several other items for Council consideration including the date of the special
election, meeting calendar for the year, a potential retreat to set goals and priorities, and
appointments to boards and commissions.
