Town of Leesburg Recognizes Plum Grove (Re)Cyclery with
2016 Tolbert Environmental Achievement Award
Leesburg, VA (January 11, 2017) – The Leesburg
Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) is
pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016
John W. Tolbert, Jr. Environmental Achievement
Award is Plum Grove (Re)Cyclery. The Tolbert
Award program recognizes students, community
groups, and individuals that conduct or participate
in activities that benefit the Town’s environment.
The Leesburg Town Council presented the award
at the Council Meeting on January 10, 2017.
Plum Grove Cyclery was selected for their
innovative use of repurposed materials in their
bicycle shop as well as their sustained
commitment to refurbishing older bikes to extend
their lifetime of service. Their community focus
not only serves cycling enthusiasts, but promotes bicycles as a transportation option, including
locker space for commuters, tools for self-repair and expertise and bike mechanics for more
complex issues.
Charlie Greenough, chair of the Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission, noted, “I am
really impressed with Plum Grove’s ingenuity in re-using materials that otherwise may be
discarded. They do a great job of demonstrating environmentally sensitive practices in the retail
environment.”
