SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Police Department is considering applying for the Edward Byrne Grant again this year.
The department is hoping to be awarded funds to cover 75% of the cost of Report Writing/Database software (approx $30,000) and a new Intoxilyzer E (approx $7,000) for a total of approximately
$37,000. This would mean the City match would be approximately $9,000 a portion of this match may be done as in kind. This request will effect the 04/05 budget and will be incorporated
in the department’s budget request.
The department is currently using CRIS software which is DOS based for reporting to the State and FBI. A separate report writing program is used
by the officers, this program is not approved for reporting statistics to the State and FBI. This causes reports written by officers to have to be entered into the CRIS database also.
The current Intoxilyzer 5000 is no longer supported by the manufacturing company. It is estimated that within the next two years parts will not be available. Currently, this unit
is repaired on an average of two times a year at a cost of approximately $200-$300 per repair. The current unit could be used as a training unit for operator and specialist certifications.
REC
