Residential, Swimming Pool & Spa, and Wildland-Urban Interface Codes Subcommittee

1. Call to order
Meeting was called to order at 3:00p.m.
2. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
Mr. Skornia pointed out that the date on the head was incorrect and needed to be changed to June 30 th,
instead of June 16th. A motion was made by Charles Skornia and seconded by Emad Faddoul to approve
the amended minutes of the June 30th , 2021 meeting.
3. Old Business
Once the minutes were approved. Mr. Holtmeyer asked to open discussion back up on R311.7.3 -
Maximum Stair Rise between Landings. He made a motion to leave the exception in the manual and Ms.
Stitt seconded the motion. Motion fails 2-4 with Mr. Yarnell, Mr. Scruggs, Mr. Skornia and Mr. Faddoul
voting against the motion.
4. New Business
IRC Changes and Amendment Review – Chris read each Amendment as outlined in the agenda.
a. IRC Significant Changes Review
i. R317.3 Fasteners in Treated Wood – Committee decided to leave as is.
ii. R322.3 Coastal High-Hazard Floods Zones – This section of code does not pertain to us,
committee decided to leave as is.
iii. R324.4 Rooftop-Mounted Photovoltaic Systems – Committee decided to leave as is.
iv. R324.6 Roof Access for Photovoltaic Systems – Mr. Skornia made a motion to add the
word “fire” in front of code official, making it “Fire Code Official”. Motion dies for lack of
second. The code will remain as written
v. R324.6.2.2 Solar Panels near Emergency Escape and Rescue Openings – Committee
decided to leave as is.
vi. R325.3 Mezzanine Area Limitation – Committee decided to leave as is.
vii. R325.6, R202 – Habitable Attics – Committee decided to leave as is.
b. In Progress Draft Amendments to the 2018 IRC
Mr. Allen asked the committee members to review the draft amendments that Mr. Kreyling had
drafted. After brief review, Ms. Stitt moved and Mr. Skornia seconded to approve the draft
amendments.
3. Next meeting date – Wednesday, July 28th, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
4. Adjourned at 4:28 p.m.
