SUMMARY STATEMENT: Council directed staff to review needed infrastructure in Rio
Vista and make a recommendation to the City Council for projects of approximately $150,000. Staff’s recommendation is that the best use of funds in Rio Vista would be to install a Septic
Tank Effluent Pump (STEP) system. We had previously asked the City Engineer to review this type of project, attached is their report from December 2003. At this juncture, we believe
it would be prudent to direct the Engineer to prepare a bid packet for this project. This system will provide sewer service to areas currently without sewer service and would encourage
growth and in-fill in Rio Vista. The new construction would result in increased revenues to the City and the increased number of users would favorably impact the sewer fund. If Council
approves the concept, staff will develop a strategy to address hook up of existing households that would be within 300 feet of the new lines for Council approval.
RECOMMENDED
ACTION: Direct the staff to prepare a bid packet for sewer improvements in Rio Vista subdivision and develop alternatives for hookup by existing households for approval.
