Leesburg, VA (February 7, 2017) – The Leesburg Police
Department announced today that Wesley C. Thompson has
been promoted to the rank of Captain and will be assigned
as the Commander to the Administrative and Support
Services Division.
“Captain Thompson’s commitment to the Leesburg
community is evident by his track record and I look forward
to his continued dedication to public service in his new
role,” said Gregory Brown, Leesburg Chief of Police.
Captain Thompson began employment as a police officer with
the Leesburg Police Department on January 3, 1989. He was
promoted to Corporal in 1997, followed by promotion to
Sergeant in 1998 when he was tasked with supervising six
patrol officers working 12-hour rotating shifts.
He was transferred to the Special Services Section in September 2001 where he was responsible
for bicycle patrol officers, motorcycle officers, crime prevention officers, coordination of all
special events, and the School Resource Officers. He served in this capacity until January 2003
when he was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to patrol services. The new assignment
entailed supervising a platoon comprised of three sergeants and approximately 15 officers.

goal was to provide a traditional holiday dinner to these families the week of Thanksgiving. The
“holiday dinner project” as it known, just celebrated its 10th consecutive year.
