HomeMy Public PortalAbout20130422 - Parks & Recreation - Meeting MinutesHopkinton Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes of 4-22-13 The Parks and Recreation Meeting was called to order by Chairman Ken Driscoll on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Dan Terry, Brian O’Keefe, Bob Dobinski, Jen Floyd, Laura Poovakad and Michael Curtin were present. Hopkinton Youth Soccer – Colette Cronin, Amy Mick, Mark Rutter Hopkinton Little League – Mike Scire Hopkinton Cheer – Amy Rizzo Hopkinton Ashland American Youth Football – Karl Morningstar High School Students: Todd Ashlen, Evan Rosen, Michael Steadman, Kyle Driscoll and Shannon McArc Action Items to follow up from 4-8-13  Facilitate first meeting of Youth Sports Partnership Meeting Minutes from 4-8-13 Approved Fruit Street Fields  Need to cost out how to handle grass area in front of turf that is being worn into a path. Options are: o Fence grass in o Put a gate to access turf on left side of field o Create a walkway with crushed stone and bushes on sides  Look into whether handicapped spaces need to be restriped so an ambulance can access the turf. Youth Sports Partnership  Youth sports have agreed to come together to create a partnership in which they will work together (with Parks and Recreation ) on field maintenance, finding preferred vendors, parking lots, storage facilities, new fields, technology, etc.  Have one fund that each organization contributes to and decides together how to allocate the funds. The fund should reside with youth sports and not Parks and Recreation.  Each organization should send two delegates and come up with priorities of what the funds would be used for. Jen Floyd and one Commissioner would be P&R’s representatives.  The first meeting (to be set up by P&R) would need to o Make a capital plan with a list of what the Partnership wants to do. o Create an operating model o Set up mission/vision/principles o Decide how to educate town on what Partnership is doing Sandy Beach  There was a one week delay due to the investigating if the bath house was a historical structure, but that was a negative find. We are still on schedule.  Permits are in motion and contractor is going to pull all permits  Commission wants progress reports Director’s Report:  Sandy Beach- Christian’s Law o Playground group visiting Sandy Beach  Sandy Beach Opening o Dumpster o Cleaning out old bath house  Wedding Shower/BBQ on Common request o Saturday, June 22nd 12pm-4pm o 40 participants mix between residents and non residents  Faith Community Church- Baptism o Sunday, June 23rd 12:30pm o Sunday, August 4 11:00am  Fields o Fruit Street black turf pellets  Summer staff o Fair amount of counselor and gate guard applications o Lifeguards and swim instructors for summer Chairman’s Report: Marathon o Safe to assume a lot of changes will be coming for next year o Probably partner with BAA going forward New Business: o Parks and Recreation Commission position open. Eric Sonnett will be on the ballot as the representative from the Republican caucus. o Babe Ruth wants to get paid. Bob Dobinski will have them send P&R an invoice. o LAX says that one of the Fruit Street turf fields is not lined.
