SUMMARY STATEMENT:
It was requested at the last Council meeting that the Local Option Tax Ordinance be reviewed
to determine if there was a residency requirement for the members of the Commission. It was the opinion of the City Attorney that the wording of the Ordinance requires the members to
reside within the City limits of McCall. It is the opinion of the City Attorney that the Committee portion of the Ordinance could probably be amended with Council's adoption of an amendatory
Ordinance.
The notice of the formation of the Local Option Tax was published in the Star News for 4 weeks. Each existing committee member was emailed and individual letters
were mailed to each accommodator. Although there have been a lot of phone calls from interested individuals, only three letters of interest have been received. Only three nonresidents
have expressed interest in serving on the Commission. It is anticipated that two more responses will be received prior to the next Council meeting.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Provide direction if it is the Council’s desire to explore amending the Ordinance to include nonresidents, or to extend the announcement period in hopes of receiving additional letters
of interest.
