HomeMy Public PortalAbout20131028 - Parks & Recreation - Meeting MinutesHopkinton Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes of 10-28-13 The Parks and Recreation Meeting was called to order by Chairman Bob Dobinski on Monday, October 28 at 7:02pm Dan Terry, Eric Sonnett, Amy Markovich, Tim Kilduff, Jennifer were present. Girl Scout Troop 72233: Mallory Peishoff, Emma Bograd, Melissa Hayes, Grace Darkow and Amelia Hagberg Residents: Mary Lynn Kulowsky, Gary Aiken and Sue Aiken and Ken Parker Meeting Minutes from 10-21-13 approved as amended. Vote 4-0, with one member abstaining. Girl Scout Troop 72233:  Looking to build bat boxes to help with local community issue with mosquitoes.  Working towards their Silver Project Badge  Bat boxes cost roughly $80 per box, and are made out of rough sided cedar  Board recommends that the troop gets in touch with the Conservation Commission and Board of Health in regards to best places in Hopkinton to put bat boxes.  Motion made to approve match funding up to $500 voted 5-0 to approve this  Motion to give blanket approval to place on Parks and Rec. after troop meets with both Conservation Commission and Board of Health voted 5-0 to approve this Community Garden  Ken Parker spoke in regards to the community garden. Wants Parks and Recreation to facilitate communication between members  Wants to know if Parks and Recreation can get compost for the plots and have the plots rototilled.  Wants to know why there isn’t a hose at the community garden- Commission recommends Jack Nealon interim Parks and Recreation Director to look into this.  Commission will also ask Jack to facilitate an email list between all interested Community Garden members. Sue Aiken- Potential Recreation Center  Looking for space for Special Needs program.  Ideal/dream space would have a gymnasium area, outside area and small kitchen inside.  Part of SOAR (Social Opportunities and Recreation) group for Special Need participants. Currently about 100 names on the mailing list.  Commission suggested the group reaches out to the school committee to find out what will be happen to Center School if they end up building a new school. Parks and Recreation Staffing  17 Applications received for Director position  Commission needs to narrow it down to 10 by end of the week Director’s Report  Halloween Party was a success  CPC Funding a placeholder was set last Thursday for both the fountain and the curbing.  Recreation basketball draft nights are set for November 12th and 13th. Registration seems to be low, and currently only have 2 scorekeepers.  Trees on the common- met with Peter Mezit to look at trees he thought they should be OK. Dave Steele wanted a second opinion  Over flow parking lot at Fruit Street Project is moving along nicely. Jack will be meeting with John last this week to walk the site. Chairman’s Report: Job Descriptions  Wants Jack to email Commission job descriptions for Director and Coordinator postions. Open Position  Commission needs to review all candidates and rank by the end of the week top ten. New Business:  Grubs are eating the grass at the Fruit Street filed and this is becoming a big issue.  Commission recommends Jack to get in touch with the company who maintains that field for us. Sub-Committee Reports Liaison Reports Marathon:  BAA just starting to plan for 2014 Boston Marathon. CPC  CPC close to agreeing on the two funds for both the fountain and curbing.
