Dear 2021 City Council Members:
I am writing to urge you to nominate Tom Dubois for mayor and Lydia Kou for vice mayor. Both have served the public
well during their time on Council but I want to especially commend Lydia for the way she has served the public. Lydia
has had the courage to support minority positions (the only Council member to vote against the conversion of the
President Hotel from affordable housing to a luxury hotel) and to as a rule, stand up for residents and “the little guy” in
the community. Lydia was the only candidate to refuse to accept campaign contributions from developers because as a
Council member, she did not want to be beholden to others’ agendas. Please make this election a reflection of the hard
work both Lydia and Tom have done to support the people in this community. The way you can do that is to elect Tom
as mayor and Lydia as vice mayor.
Sincerely,
Beth Rosenthal, PhD

Happy New Year.
May the next mayor and vice mayor serve the residents of Palo Alto, not
the interests of big business and commuters.
We need MORE resident-serving businesses and services, not fewer, and
our small businesses need all the help they can get from the city after all
their pandemic-related losses during the past 9 months. It's truly heart-
breaking to see all the GoFundMe appeals from treasured local businesses
and we should be concentrating on helping -- not hurting -- them.
I'm appalled by suggestions that we should accelerate the decline of
resident-serving businesses by the unseemly rush to let office spaces
replace them. This move is especially egregious given all the empty
offices up for rent at a time when even the biggest employers like Google
and Facebook have decided to have their workers work remotely.
Therefore, I propose that Vice Mayor DuBois move into the mayoral role
with either Lydia Kou or Pat Burt ascending to vice mayor since we know
they represent US and our interests. For a change.
Most sincerely,
Jo Ann Mandinach
