HomeMy Public PortalAbout20130923 - Parks & Recreation - Meeting MinutesHopkinton Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes of 9-23-13 The Parks and Recreation Meeting was called to order by Chairman Bob Dobinski on Monday, September 23 at 7:15 PM. Dan Terry, Eric Sonnett, Jennifer Floyd and Laura Poovakad were present. Meeting Minutes were approved with Amendment Next meeting will be Oct. 21st since Oct. 14 (normally scheduled meeting) is Columbus Day. Invite Kelly’s to next meeting to discuss their tree letter, on 10/21. Sandy Beach Update  No update from Ken Driscoll yet  Eric to pull buoys out of the lake. Staffing  Human Resources posted last Friday (9/20) for Interim Director Position expected fulltime, 40hrs/wk. Was suppose to be for a Full Time Director so will have to report. Cannot interview until its been posted for 10 days.  Part-time position will not be posted until the new Director is hired, then he/she can choose new person.  Interim Director- hire Jack Nealon Vote 3-0 for Director’s Report  Fruit Street Grass Fields o Seeding o Sand bags/Nets  Costs for renting school and P&R fields – handed out copies  Farmer’s Market – music (approved to have these last few weeks)  Equipment Room at Athletic Center - Setting up to put in brochure and Sportsman o Need to have at least 60 participants sign up at a cost of $100 each. o Hours will be M-Th 6-9pm o Nov 1st through End of May o Will pay staff 450 a night.  Fall/ Winter Registration Numbers – will email numbers to Commission  P&R Calendar of what we do doing the year – handed out to all  Buses for skiing at Wachusett and Nashoba – cost (keeping cost at $85 which is the same as last year).  Tree Warden – need to meet with him and Mike Scire about what trees need to be taken down at EMC park.  Financial Aid Request – For Rec basketball will grand 6 scholarships. If more are requested the Commission will then revisit. Chairman’s Report: Demons Hockey  Started talk at 1/23/12 meeting. Based on meeting minutes… o It was discussed putting in a rink at Legacy Farms where property has been designated for recreational use. o Demons were going to provide at no cost to the town. o Demons only sports group to come forward about this land. o Many things to be worked out (user agreement, access fees, etc) o Board voted in favor of moving forward on this proposal. Parking at Fruit St o See if Norman and DPW can clear an area for more overflow parking Sub-Committee Reports Liaison Reports o Liaison assignments tabled until next meeting o Eric- CPC to fund replacement of granite on common that is crumbling. (Out of historical budget) o Fountain- town meeting approved $60,000. Eric will get this moving o Trails Committee- there is an 80 page report of planned trails from 10-15 years ago.
