SUMMARY STATEMENT:
After the districting effort, it became apparent that there was a major discrepancy between fees
and taxes paid to support the library. At the yearly levy rate for 2006, .000294860, the city
residents pay $44.23 on $150,000 assessed value ($225,000 house) and pay $58.97 for a
$200,000 assessed value ($275,000 house). Currently, the non-resident fee is $25 per family
per year.
In order to bring the fees paid by those who live outside the city and use the library more in line
with the rate residents pay, the Library Board is recommending that the non-resident fee be
raised to $50 per family per year. The new fee would be effective on October 1, 2006, the first
day of the new fiscal year.
The fee increase was noticed in The Star -News on July 20 and July 27, 2006.
This is a Public Hearing.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution 06-15 as recommended by the Library Board
