Question & Concerns: Exercise Room -There was an inquiry about the senior groups utilizing the lockers for storage. Unfortunately we will not use those for storage. They will remain in the locker room. We do foresee the attendance growing. We are looking at other solutions for storage. I also welcome any ideas from the different groups or suggest Fundraising so your can provide your own storage. The budget will be passed for this next fiscal year and at the moment we don't have money to purchase extra storage. CPR Staff Training - If anyone on our staff has an expired CPR card they will be going through training starting in May, June and July. Nurse on Staff- We are not required to have a nurse on staff. We are deemed a recreation drop-in center for mature adults. We are not a daycare or an assisted living center. They are required to have nurses on staff and social workers; for example Alta-Med. We are not mandated to have a nurse on staff. Edna Ford -Regarding the exercise class at the pool; they have a chair to help you get in and out of the pool. The last time 1 was there it was not working and I almost got injured. I want to know if the chair has been fixed because I want to exercise in the pool. Marisa Cordova- I will contact Rozie Carrillo who is responsible for the Natatorium. 1 wasn't aware of the issue but I will definitely look into that. Pubic Orals: Ofelia Sanders - I would like to make a comment regarding the Lynwood Senior Newsletter. I would like to see them get out at the end of the month by April 30, 2009 or the beginning of May. How can the seniors know about events when you don't get them out in a timely manner? Marisa Cordova - llu is the one actually coordinating the Cinco de Mayo event but he has asked that group to help him coordinate and put the event on. It is not the group's event, it is a Senior Center event. FIe asked for volunteers and that's the specific group that volunteered. Prank Calderon - My wife went Monday with my oldest daughter to Palm Springs. She called last night; she went to the senior center and was very impressed with all the events going on. Manny Perez - I want to congratulate you guys for holding a very informative meeting. Percy Brown -There are flyers in the lobby for a financial workshop. It basically has to do with real-estate, it's free and it will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Firebaugh High School. I expect to see each and everyone at the Senior Citizen Birthday Bash on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 630 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. here at the Senior Center. There will be food, dancing and the game room will be open. Guadalupe - I just want to know why we have two events on the same day like the San Manuel Casino trip and the food give-away on Thursday, May 28, 2009. Board Orals: Chair Paulette Bradley - I would like to introduce our latest member to the Senior Advisory Council Mrs. Pamela Taylor. Member Pamela Taylor -Good evening everyone, I am new at this here. I am trying to see what I can be of assistance tp, hope I can learn and assist all seniors. Member Barbara Battle - I have received several comments referring to the health of Mr. Battle. I would like to give you an update. He is coming along very well, he is progressing. We are going through a lot of rehab. Thank you for inquiring. Member D. Joyce Edner - I would like to thank Manny Perez for the comment. I hope that we have been servicing you well. We are going to do everything we can to continue to see this senior center grow in harmony and love. We are all adults, have opinions and it doesn't mean my opinion is better than yours. We hear everyone and we do what is best for the center. [would like to welcome Mrs. Taylor. We learn moment by moment by doing and seeing, it takes time. Member Lorene Reed - I want to thank Manny Perez it means a lot. We are striving with all our might to satisfy the seniors here in this center. We are also trying to come up with different activities especially for the summer months. We want to utilize our patio and there are lots of things we are planning. You have noticed a lot of fundraising taking place so that we will alleviate the strain on the budget that the City allocates. The City does not have a lot of money for us so we are trying to hold fundraisers in order to provide these activities here. On Thursday, May 21, 2009 our night bingo has a snack bar that we need to utilize to raise money. What we are trying to do with the money we raise is purchase things that are needed here in the center through the Bingo Club. We purchased items and sponsor activities. That is what the bingo club is all about Chair Paulette Bradley 1. 1 would like to congratulate the La Familia Group you did a smashing job yesterday. We are expecting another event. We want to hear that you are a formal group in the senior services program. There will be some paperwork for you to fill out. Marisa Cordova and Ilu Johnson will help walk you through the process. I could hear your party here from my house three blocks away. 2. I want to thank Ofelia Sanders for bringing up the comment of the senior newsletter. 1 will be working with Marisa Cordova. I have some suggestions about it. We need your input in our newsletter. I would like to see more personal stories. 3. Lupe, you're probably not aware we have a large calendar in the office that we have been working on this year. We try to keep the calendar updated for four months. When we are in the process of planning an activity the plan is to check on the calendar to see what is going on so we don't have a schedule conflict. Adjournment: Member Lorene Reed made a motion to adjourn, 2"`~ by Member D. Joyce Edner. By unanimous consent the meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m. 3
