COUNCIL MINUTES
ADJOURNED MEETING
December 27, 1972
INITIATION:
1. Mayor Briggs called the adjourned meeting of the City Council to
order at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 1972, in the north
meeting room of the City Hall.
2. ROLL CALL:
Present: Councilmen - Dennis, Gilbertson, Merritt, Briggs
Absent: Councilmen - Tyrell
Also Present: City Manager Koski
Councilman Gilbertson moved to excuse the absence of Councilman
Tyrell for cause, seconded by Councilman Dennis and carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
3. RENEWAL OF AGREEMENT FOR PURCHASE OPTION - HUMBLE OIL
(Lot 41, Tract 3623)
City Manager Koski advised that pursuant to Council action at
regular meeting of December 19, 1972, he and the City Attorney had
negotiated with Humble Oil Co. for extension of purchase option on
property located at the southwest corner of Las Tunas Drive and
Rosemead Boulevard (Lot 41, Tract 3623), within the Rosemead
Boulevard Redevelopment Project Area, for a six -month period. He
presented letter to amend agreement dated December 26, 1972,
prepared and executed by the City Attorney, extending existing
purchase option dated April 5, 1972, through and including
June 30, 1973, subject to each, every and all of the provisions
contained in option agreement, which letter had been acceptable
to and signed by Robert Corns, authorized agent for Humble Oil Co.
Councilman Merritt moved to confirm the letter dated December 26,
1972, executed by the City Attorney and authorized agent for
Humble Oil Co., extending purchase option agreement dated
April 5, 1972, for Lot 41, Tract 3623, through and including
June 30, 1973, seconded by Councilman Dennis and carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
4. SET PUBLIC HEARING: Entertainment License - Heritage Inn
(formerly Blackwatch), 8905 E. Las Tunas Drive (Johnny and
Ramon Fauria, applicants).
City Manager Koski advised that an application had been received
for entertainment license for Heritage Inn (formerly Blackwatch)
at 8905 E. Las Tunas Drive, and that the proposed use was compatible
with the Redevelopment Plan for the Rosemead Boulevard Redevelop-
ment Project. Councilman Gilbertson moved to set for Public
Hearing on January 16, 1973, at 7:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers
of the City Hall, seconded by Councilman Dennis and carried.
5. COMMUNICATIONS:
City Manager Koski presented a communication from Greater. Los
Angeles Chapter, National Safety Council, inviting local City
officials to attend a Forum and luncheon of the Council at 12 noon
on Wednesday, January 3, 1973, to be held at the T &J Restaurant in
Rosemead, at which time Traffic Commissioner Cole will be one of the
speakers. Councilmen Merritt and Gilbertson indicated they will be
able to attend, and members of the Traffic Commission and staff will
be contacted ,in regard to their possible attendance.

6. TIME FOR THOSE IN AUDIENCE WHO WISH TO SPEAK:
There were none.
7. MATTERS FROM CITY OFFICIALS:
A. Invitation to Magdalena Officials to Visit at Camellia
Festival Time.
Mayor Briggs advised that he would like to extend an official
invitation to the Mayor of Magdalena to attend the Camellia
Festival, which was concurred in by Council. Councilman Gilbert-
son volunteered to assist in hosting the Magdalena Mayor to the
various activities, particularly while Mayor Briggs would be
occupied with official responsibilities in connection with
the Camellia Festival and Parade. Councilman Dennis, as Sister
City Representative, will coordinate the welcoming activities
with the Sister City Committee.
B. Rams Football Recognition Banquet::- January 4, 1973.
City Manager Koski advised that invitations had been extended
to Councilmen and Commissioners and their wives and Administrative
Staff to attend the Rams Football Recognition Banquet to be held
at the Baptist Church on January 4, 1973. It was concurred in by
Council to approve payment of those banquet reservations for
Councilmen, Commissioners and their wives who wished to attend,
and administrative staff, with payment for same to be made after
the banquet.
8, ADJOURNMENT:
On motion of Councilman Merritt, seconded by Councilman Gilbertson
and carried, the meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m. Next regular
meeting of the Council to be held on January 2, 1973, at 7:30 p.m.
in the Council Chambers of the City Hall.
