HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 93-3215 Support the Enactment of Federal Legislation to restrict, constrict and control the flow and existence of illegal aliens in the county1 1 RESOLUTION NO. 93 -3215 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE ENACTMENT OF FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO RESTRICT, CONSTRICT AND CONTROL THE FLOW AND EXISTENCE OF 11 LEGAL ALIENS IN THE COUNTRY. WHEREAS, the City of Temple City recognizes that America was built on immigration, and values new immigrants to the City and County; and WHEREAS, the City of Temple City further recognizes that illegal immigration mocks the law and is an affront to those who immigrate legally; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles conducted a comprehensive study to determine the impact illegal immigration has upon the County; and WHEREAS, this study concluded that illegal aliens cost $1.4 billion annually in County costs including social services, education, law enforcement and health care; WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has asked the City to support the passage of federal laws which would constrict and control the existence and flow of illegal aliens into the country; and WHEREAS, the benefits that result from immigration are outweighed by the substantial problems and burdens imposed by illegal immigration; and WHEREAS, the federal government must improve management of immigration to better maintain the integrity of the borders of the United States; and WHEREAS, an enforceable immigration policy must occur to mitigate the substantial problems and burdens imposed by current illegal immigration on numerous areas including health, law enforcement, education and social services; and WHEREAS, serious attention must be accorded to California's lack of capacity to absorb illegal aliens: NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Support the enactment of federal legislation which would include the following. design tamper -proof green cards that cannot be counterfeited or forged; b) expedite the deportation of illegal alien criminals following the completion of their jail or prison term; c) immediately deport illegal aliens when they are apprehended during illegal entry; d) increase the Border Patrol; e) establish a Border Patrol Reserve component; f) authorize National Guard forces to assist the Immigration and Naturalization Service; g) develop a work - permit process to allow the legal entry of workers who are needed on a temporary or seasonal basis; h) provide full reimbursement by the federal government to local government for the public costs attributable to undocumented aliens; and i) transfer illegal alien criminals from City /County facilities to federal detention facilities. SECTION 2. Upon adoption, the City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the California Congressional delegation, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, cities within the San Gabriel Valley, and other interested parties. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution.
