Filing Deadline for Leesburg Town Council Special Election is
August 18, 2017
Candidates must submit all documents, including a petition of qualified voters,
by the deadline in order to appear on the November 7, 2017 ballot.
Leesburg, VA (May 11, 2017) – The Virginia Department of Elections has issued the candidate
bulletin that provides the filing requirements for potential candidates for the Leesburg Town
Council Special Election to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
The special election will fill the remainder of the Town Council seat vacated by Kelly Burk when
she became mayor in January 2017. The term of the vacant council seat ends on December 31,
2018.
Eligible candidates must be qualified to vote for the office sought, must have been a resident of
the Commonwealth of Virginia for one year immediately preceding the election, and must be a
resident of the Town of Leesburg at the time of the filing. Candidates must submit a certificate
of candidate qualification, a declaration of candidacy, and a petition of qualified voters with at
least 125 signatures. The candidate bulletin and all required forms can be found on the Virginia
Department of Elections website at www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info.
