Town of Leesburg Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting
Award for 30th Straight Year
Leesburg, VA (May 26, 2017) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has
awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of
Leesburg for its Fiscal Year 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Leesburg has
received this award for thirty consecutive years.
The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. Attainment of this award represents a
significant accomplishment by a government organization and its management. In order to
receive the certificate, an impartial panel judged the Town’s CAFR as meeting the high
standards of the GFOA’s program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full
disclosure” to clearly communicate the Town’s financial story and to motivate users to read the
CAFR.
The GFOA also presented an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement to Clark G. Case,
Leesburg’s Director of Finance and Administrative Services, as the individual primarily
responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.
“The annual budget document is a plan for the coming year, but the CAFR is how we
demonstrate to the taxpayers that we did what we said we were going to do with their money
last year,” said Kaj Dentler, Leesburg’s Town Manager. “This award provides Leesburg’s
residents and property owners with confidence that we are good stewards of the Town’s
financial resources.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving
over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America.
