Leesburg, VA (June 1, 2017) – In August 2016, Town staff presented plans for a proposed interactive water feature at Mervin Jackson Park in downtown Leesburg to the Board of Architectural Review (BAR) for design approval. Although the water feature project was eventually cancelled, as a result of the discussion, the BAR suggested that the Town take a new approach to such projects. Before any new amenities are added to the grounds surrounding Town Hall and parking garage in downtown Leesburg, the BAR requested that the Town develop a master plan for the entire campus, based on input from residents and other stakeholders. In the past, decisions about additions and improvements to the Town Hall campus have been made on a case-by-case basis. For example, the BAR reviewed and approved plans for Mervin Jackson Park in 2014 and the design of the permanent stage on the Town Green in 2016. As a first step in the master plan process, the Town is asking for input on what new features or amenities members of the public would like to see in the various open spaces of the Town Hall Campus, including the Town Green, the Rose Garden, Mervin Jackson Park, the entrances to the parking garage, the Loudoun Museum garden, and the parking garage facades. On the Leesburg Listens website at www.leesburgva.gov/leesburglistens (or click on the purple icon in the “Engage” bar on the website homepage), the public can view an aerial photo of the Town Hall Campus with the various planning areas outlined. Visitors may add comments to each area about how they envision the areas looking and being used in the future. The Leesburg Listens site will close to public input on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
