HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2017-06-19 4th of July celebration Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release June 19, 2017 Media Contact: Betsy Arnett, Public Information Officer barnett@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2734 Celebrate the 4th of July Hometown Style in Leesburg Festivities will begin with downtown parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by concert and fireworks show at Ida Lee Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. Leesburg, VA (June 19, 2017) – The Town of Leesburg will host its 27th annual Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, presented by Loudoun Medical Group. Start the holiday by showing your patriotic spirit at the annual Independence Day Parade, held through Historic Downtown Leesburg beginning at 10:00 a.m. The parade will start at Ida Lee Park, travel down King Street and conclude at Fairfax Street. Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and neighbors to celebrate the birthday of the United States! This year’s parade will also feature the 10th Annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by Loudoun Now newspaper. This award will go to the best parade entry. The winner’s name will be engraved on the Patriot Cup and displayed in the Town Hall trophy case on the second floor. Prior to the parade, the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps will perform at the intersection of King and Market streets. Sponsored by Toth Financial, this traditional military-style music group adds a patriotic sound to the parade and is a favorite among parade viewers. Plan to arrive downtown by 9:45 a.m. to hear the fifes and drums before the parade kicks off. If you are interested in participating in the parade, entry is free! King Street will close to through-traffic at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for the parade. Downtown streets will re-open at approximately 11:30 a.m. TOL PR 2017-06-19 Independence Day celebration Page 2 The celebration kicks into high gear at 6:00 p.m. at Ida Lee Park. Gates open at 5:45pm. Be sure to arrive early and grab a spot on the lawn for a full night of fun, food and great music. The opening concert act, Sub-Radio, will kick-off the night performing their well-known originals and popular hits. The headliner concert by The Robbie Limon Band will begin at 7:30 p.m., with music that will rekindle the 70’s era. A full food court will be onsite with funnel cakes, ice cream, hot dogs and other goodies. The biggest bang of the evening begins at 9:30 p.m. when the largest fireworks show in the region will light up the sky. Choreographed to patriotic music, this light show is not to be missed. Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive, and the festival field parking off King Street. The Town of Leesburg staff will work hard to ensure that as many vehicles as possible are parked in the park, so attendees are asked to be patient while waiting t o enter and exit. The Town reminds our guests to use designated crosswalks if walking to the park. Coolers and large bags are permitted but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, glass bottles and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted. In the event of rain, fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5th at 9:30 p.m. No other activities will be rescheduled.
