Minutes-Regular Session

1. Call To Order: The meeting was called too order at 7:00 p.m. by Becky Harlan.
2. Approval of Minutes:

L. Hanson made a motion to approve and April 9, 2001 with a second byk. the minutes from

4. Public Input There was no public input
5. Special Projects and Old Business:
a. Park Maintenance Building Project Rod
will be a walk- reported that we have the keys!
through tomorrow with painting beginning on Saturday.

Jan Firebaugh spoke to the board about a temporary

was made. She said she also has some equipment we could use

next steering committee meeting. It was also reported that the fund-raising
efforts were going well and that the Kiwanis will be taking care of the food for
the build days.
d. Rock Wall: L. Hanson reported that 25-27 people total participated in the

successful effort to repair the rock walls. She praised the volunteers and
acknowledged their back-breaking efforts.
e. People Pathways: Rod reported that he recently took a tour of the Fillmore
Trail with Joy Marley We have been maintaining our section of the pathway.
The group is still waiting to hear about their ISTEA grant but is aware they
made the first cut.
6. Approval of 2001 Program and Activity Fee Schedule: Rod reviewed the handout
on the fee schedule (see attached). He had broken down the "diamond fees" and
added some new categories: model railroading class, gingerbread house contest,
blastball, hobby and sports card show, haunted hayride, all American fishing derby.
L. Hanson made a motion to approve the new fe
e ee schedule. The motion was
seconded by S. Pitcock and passed.
7. Budget Review: Rod reported that M. Terry had volunteered to help draw up
the 2002 budget. He also stated that the city is looking at an overall increase
of 5%. L. Hanson questioned if we could add in the $27,000 that we lost this year on
top of the 5%. Rod would like to budget in another truck for the department. L.
Hanson also volunteered to help with the budget.
8. Director's Report Rod reviewed his written report. Highlights include: The Arbor
Day celebration at the park was successful. Wal-Mart will donate $100 to the Fishing
Derby and the Jaycees are supplying the person-power. Jeannie Young will be the
pool manager and Stephanie Hunter will be the assistant park director. S. Pitcock
made a motion to approve the hirings and L. Hanson seconded it. The motion
passed. A discussion followed concerning the use of Trustees from the Putnam
County Jail. Sharon questioned Rod concerning supervision of the trustees and
the wearing of park shirts. Rod informed the board that they trustees are well
supervised and it was decided that they would no longer wear shirts that identify
them as associated with the department. Rod also reported that the target date for
the opening of the pool is May 2661.
