Sagetopia moved to Leesburg’s Arts and Cultural District in 2015. As a token of their gratitude for the opportunity to be involved within the district, the Sagetopia team created and painted the mural, which was inspired by many unique aspects of historic Leesburg. “Leesburg is filled with many charming landmarks and activities that locals and visitors love to visit. We captured the most prominent pieces in downtown Le esburg in the illustration,” says Karli Mowrey, the illustrator and designer of the mural. The 25’ x 18’ mural includes Fourth of July fireworks at Ida Lee, the W&OD Trail, musical scenes from First Fridays and Tally Ho, local restaurants and shops on King Street, the haunted house at Paxton Manor, and many other notable aspects of Leesburg. “The purpose of the mural is to inspire the public to exp lore the Town of Leesburg,” says Sung Hee Kim, the founder and Creative Director of Sagetopia. “As we were working on the mural, people would stop and express excitement with they found their favorite local landmarks in the artwork. We want to spread the message that public art brings economic prosperity to the community by attracting the public to local businesses.” Kim continues, “Many thanks to the Sagetopia staff and friends around the community who volunteered their time to make this mural happen. Extra thank you’s go out to the Lowe’s of Leesburg for donation of the paint supplies and to Donna Torraca, other members of FOLPA, and members of the Leesburg Commission on Public Art for their support throughout this project.
