Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County Sign Health
Department Agreement
Loudoun County Health Department will administer the County’s public health
nuisance ordinances within the Town.
Leesburg, VA (July 24, 2017) – Recently, the Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County agreed to
work cooperatively to address health-related nuisance issues within the Town limits. Among
other things, the County’s Health Department inspects and investigates conditions that may
adversely affect public health, to include rodent or insect infestation outside of a home that
becomes a menace to the public’s health and safety.
“Under this new memorandum of understanding (MOU), the Loudoun County Health
Department will assist Town staff in responding to complaints from Town residents that require
the expertise of Health Department staff,” says Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk. “For issues such as
hazardous substances, unsanitary disposal of garbage, or other conditions that are dangerous
or unhealthy and constitute a menace to the health and safety of the public, the Loudoun
County Health Department will investigate and take enforcement actions as necessary.”
"I am grateful for the quick work of the Leesburg Town Manager and Town Attorney to work
with their counterparts in the Loudoun County Government to make sure that the citizens of
Leesburg receive valuable health and safety inspection services when needed ,” says Leesburg
Town Council Member Ron Campbell who championed the effort.
