Call to Order:
Vice Chairperson Jaimas called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m.
Pledge of Allegiance: Led by Commissioner Real

Commissioner Sylvia Herron -Present

Attendees
Laura Alderete, Liaison
Roll Call; 4 Commissioners present; Commissioner Araujo was absent during roll call (she called
Laura Alderete at 8:30 a.m. to say she would be late to the meeting) but arrived at 10:20 a.m.
Certification of Agenda Posting: Agenda was duly posted.
Vice Chairperson Jaimes called for a motion to approve the April 12 minutes. Commissioner
Herron made a motioned to approve the minutes and seconded by Commissioner Real. All
approved.
June 2009 Women's Power Half Hour Planning and Discussion:
After some discussion on the topic of finances, the Commissioners agreed to focus on "Housing"
with three particular areas: 1) Habitat for Humanity Program in Lynwood, 2) Foreclosures and 3)
First Time Homebuyers.
Laura Alderete, Commission Liaison, and Commissioner Araujo will work together to get
speakers. Commissioner Jaimes will confirm Lucy Avalos for brunch, and all of the
Commissioners will work on distributing fliers to increase attendance.
The last event was well attended and the Commissioners expressed their gratitude to staff and
would like to continue to grow the programs.

Women of the Year Award:
The Commissioners discussed the possibility of creating recognition for women who serve the
Lynwood community and go unrecognized. A recognition event will be planned for next year,
2010, to take place during a regularly scheduled Women's Power Half Hour. In the meantime, the
Commission will work on the nomination forms, criteria, and sponsorship.

Vice Chairperson Jaimes asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Herron made
a motion to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Commissioner Real. The meeting adjourned at
11:09 a.m.
