Public Art Planned for King Street Bridge
Call to artists issued, seeking design submissions for two new murals on the
bridge across Town Branch.
Leesburg, VA (August 11, 2017) – The
Leesburg Commission on Public Art
(COPA) is seeking submissions from
artists for two historically-themed
murals. The murals will be painted on
each side of the King Street Bridge
spanning the Town Branch and adjacent
to the W&OD bike and walking trail.
The King Street Bridge Mural Contest is
open to all artists in the DC Metro area
regardless of past experience with public
art projects. Teams or groups are encouraged to apply. Trompe l’oeil design is suggested, but
not required. Deadline for submissions is Friday, October 6, 2017, at noon.
Any submitted sketches will be considered entries into this COPA-sponsored contest. Artists
must also submit a suggested budget for design, installation and materials. The winner(s) will
be chosen based on design and budget requirements and will receive reimbursement for artist
fees and materials. Winner(s) will be notified by November 17, 2017, with installation of
murals anticipated during 2018.
