Town of Leesburg Offices Closed on Monday, June 20, for
Juneteenth Observation
Leesburg, VA (June 10, 2022) – In observation of the Juneteenth holiday, all Town of Leesburg
offices will be closed on Monday, June 20.
In June 2020, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam issued an executive order, making Juneteenth
an official Virginia state holiday. The Leesburg Town Council declared Juneteenth a Town
government holiday in September 2020.
On June 19, 1865, a group of Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil
War had ended and slaves were free. Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States.
