On Tuesday, August 9, the Leesburg Town Council unanimously approved the lease of office space located at 15 N King Street. The Town has previously supported the SBDC cooperatively operated among the Town of Leesburg, George Mason University, and Loudoun County by providing office space in downtown Leesburg. For this purpose, $75,000 was recently allocated in the Adopted Fiscal Year 2023 General Fund budget for an office lease. According to Director of Economic Development Russell Seymour, the new offices were identified about two weeks ago. The leased area consists of approximately 3,073 gross square feet and comprises the second floor of the 15 North King Street building for a term of one year with four additional one-year renewal terms exercisable at the Town’s option. “This move will allow the SBDC to remain in downtown Leesburg without occupying space dedicated to the Town’s HUBZone, which remains an important and limited resource for our local businesses,” Seymour said. “The new location will also allow our staff to be located in one space, while remaining in close proximity to the many resources located within Town Hall.” The SBDC provides counseling and training to small businesses located within Loudoun County. In addition, they work with the Small Business Association (SBA) to develop and provide informational tools to support business start-ups and existing business expansion. “The SBDC is a resource for our small businesses throughout Loudoun County,” Seymour said. “We have a much broader scope. Our department does a lot of work with small businesses here in the Town. This move will give us an opportunity to share some of our resources.” Both the Department of Economic Development and the SBDC will begin moving into their new space on August 15. They will be officially settled in on September 1. The Town Manager is evaluating plans for the future use of the log cabin, where the Town’s Department of Economic Development has been located since 2021. # # #
