Call to Order
The special Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners meeting/retreat was called to
order at 7:00 p.m. by President L.Hanson in the administration office of the Parks &
Recreation Department.

2005 Master Plan Update
The following items were listed as a priority in the upcoming year and will be included in
the 2005 update to the 2003-2007 Greencastle Parks& Recreation Department Master
Plan, which Director R.Weinschenk will draft and present at a future park board meeting.
1. Big Walnut Sports Park
a. Maintenance Agreement—Renegotiate and continue the maintenance
agreement with Big Walnut Sports Park
b. Land& Water Conservation Fund Grant—Hoping that the third time is the
charm, review and reapply for the 2005 L. & W.C.F. Grant for acquisition
and development of"Big Walnut Community Park".
c. Batting Cages—Install batting cages as an attraction at Big Walnut Sports
Park and charge a fee for use to bring revenues into the department.
d. Lightning Detector—Install a lightning detector in the center of the park
and draft some policies regarding lightning and organized sporting events.
2. Maple Berry Park- East
a. Greenspace—Hire construction company to remove the asphalt existing in
the park, bring in some good top soil and turn the area to grass with the
thought that green grass is better than looking at the existing broken
asphalt.

b. Parks Development—Develop the of eastern portion of Maple Berry Park
as soon as funding can be raised.
3. Clearwaters' Produce Market
a. Brownfield Grant—Work with the Greencastle Engineering Department in
applying for grant funding to complete
underground storaget tanks property to
determine if in fact there exists
contamination to the property.
b. Acquisition—Acquire property and extend the borders of Robe-Ann Park,
converting the area to greenscape.
4. Park Signage—Through Friends of the Park new entryway signs forn of Putnam County, Inc.
complete fundraisers to raise funds to purchase
municipal parks,which will help with visibility and education.
5. Partnerships—Due to the lack of programming space, establiseh partnershipsstions for
Volleyball
locations to conducting V Greencastle Middle School and High School and recreation
