Minutes of the Regular Meeting
Saturday, October 8, 2005
Present: President Leslie Hanson, Vice President Tim Trigg, Secretary Dr. John
Hennette, and Becky Harlan,
Absent: Putnam County Library Ex-Officio Member Margot Payne and
Greencastle Community Schools Ex-Officio Member Barry Fisher and
City Council Liaison Russ Evans
Also Present: Parks & Recreation Director Rod Weinschenk
Call to Order
The Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.
by President L.Hanson in the Greencastle Parks & Recreation Department administrative
office at Robe-Ann Park, Greencastle. It should be noted that the meeting was not held
on the regular meeting night, due to the lack of quorum.
Public Input—None
Minutes
Upon review, the minutes for last month's regular meeting, dated September 7, 2005
were approved on a motion from J.Hennette, second by B.Harlan. All Ayes.
Monthly Finances
Transfers -None
Claims - On a motion from B.Harlan, second by J.Hennette, the claims were approved.
Park Usage Requests
1. Party wBand - The board reviewed a written request from Ronald Noe to hold a
party for his son's 16th birthday at Robe-Ann Park on Saturday, October 22, 2:00-
8:00 p.m., which will include a band. Upon review of the request, approval was
given on a motion from J.Hennette, second by T.Trigg. All Ayes.
2. Holiday Decorations—The board reviewed a request from the Friends of the
Park to decorate the shelters in Robe-Ann Park during the winter holidays.
Permission was granted with the understanding that the program was not a City
sponsored or organized program, but would be run by community volunteers with
help from the parks department staff members. Upon review of the request,
approval was given on a motion from J.Hennette, second by T.Trigg. All Ayes.
Friends Of The Park, Special Projects, and Old Business
1. 2005 Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant BWSP Application Update—
R. Weinschenk reported we are still awaiting official word in regards to our
application.
2. Ivy Tech Community College at Rokicki Park—R.Weinschenk reported that
the project is progressing receiving a budget allocation at the state level.
3. People Pathways—R.Weinschenk gave a short review of the past month's
happenings with the People Pathways Phases III, IV and V Projects.
Recreation Programs
1. Backroad Bike Tour—President L.Hanson gave a short review of this annual
People Pathways Fundraiser,which attracted 90 riders.
2. Coed Softball—R.Weinschenk reported that we were able to draw 24 teams with
the average of 14 players per team for this year's Coed Softball Program.
Scheduling two fields, one at Big Walnut Sports Park and the one at Robe-Ann
Park,the league is up two teams over last year's program.
3. Youth Basketball—R.Weinschenk reported that registration forms will be passed
out to the local schools over the next two weeks.
4. "Mommy & Me" Program—The board reviewed Assistant Director Lori
Newsom's synopsis of the new Mommy&Me Program offered by the
department.
5. Learn-To-Swim Lessons—The board reviewed a letter from Susan Baker dated
August 15, 2005 in which she praised the Learn-To-Swim and Lifeguard staff at
the Greencastle Aquatics Center.
New Business -None
Director's Report
Director R.Weinschenk provided a written Director's report for the Board's review.
Adjournment
L.Hanson announced that the next meeting will be held on Tuesday evening,November 1
and at the Greencastle Parks&Recreation Department administrative offices. The
meeting will be moved ahead one evening, due to the Director Weinschenk's family
vacation. On a motion from J.Hennette, second by B.Harlan,the meeting was adjourned
at 9:00 a.m. All Ayes.
