HomeMy Public PortalAboutOctober 4 2006 Regular Session Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners Minutes of the Regular Meeting October 4,2006 Present: Vice President Leslie Hanson, Secretary Tim Trigg,and Kara Thomas Absent: President Dr. John Hennette Also Present: Athena Cooper w/Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,Carly Hammel w/Depauw University Hartman House;Joy Marley, Bill Dory,and Parks&Recreation Director Rod Weinschenk Call to Order The evening's meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.by Board Vice President Leslie Hanson and was held in the City Council meeting room of Greencastle City Hall. Public Input-None Facility Requests 1. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraiser run/walk—Athena Cooper with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation requested the use of the People Pathways trails for a Great Strides fundraiser walk on Saturday, May 19,2007(See attached letter of request). The actual route,whether to Fillmore or around BWSP,will be determined at a later date. On a motion from K.Thomas, second by T.Trigg,the request was approved. All ayes. 2. Make a Difference Day Project—Carly Hammel with the Depauw University Hartman House presented a request to adopt Jaycee Park as the site for the 2006 Make a Difference Day Project. She will organize the event to be held on Saturday,October 28,2006 with volunteers painting the inside of the Community Building,pulling a section of old farm fence located along the new 10' security fence to the airport,and raking leaves. On a motion from L.Hanson, second by K.Thomas,the request was approved. All ayes. Approval of Minutes On a motion from K.Thomas,second by T.Trigg,the minutes from the September 6,2006 Regular Meeting were approved as presented. All Ayes Approval of Monthly Claims& Invoices—On a motion from K.Thomas,second by T.Trigg, claims were approved as presented. All Ayes. October 4, 2006 To Whom It May Concern: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Indiana Chapter would like to hold its first Greencastle GREAT STRIDES Walk at the People Pathways on Saturday, May 19, 2007. The Walk will begin at 4:00 p.m. and registration will be held one hour prior to the event beginning at 3:00 p.m. We expect approximately 100 walkers and we plan to have the Walmart-Super Center parking lot as our beginning and ending points. Please advise on the proper procedures for securing this date for the GREAT STRIDES walk on the park's (city's) calendar. We will be coordinating the Greencastle GREAT STRIDES walk and will be meeting with a committee on a monthly basis during the planning process. We invite you to serve as a member on our planning committee representing the Greencastle Parks Department.
