Minutes of the Regular Meeting
Monday, February 7, 2011
Present: President Russ Evans, Secretary Kara Thomas, Tim Trigg, City Council

Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
by President R.Evans and held in the council room at Greencastle City Hall.
Public Input - None
Minutes
T.Trigg motioned, with second by K.Thomas, to accept the minutes from Wednesday,
January 5, 2011 as presented. All Ayes.
Claims
The monthly claims were approved on a motion from K.Thomas, second by T.Trigg. All
Ayes.
Reconfiguration of the Board
1. President - The board members took a moment to discuss last year's
appointments and then on a motion from K.Thomas, second by R.Evans made
J.Hennette President. All Ayes.
2. Vice President — On a motion from T.Trigg, second by R.Evans, K.Thomas
became Vice President. All Ayes.
3. Secretary — On a motion from T.Trigg, second by K.Thomas, R.Evans became
Secretary. All Ayes.
Old Business
Master Plan Update — Rod Weinschenk discussed the department goals for 2011 that
will be listed in the Master Plan. A quick list of the top four projects include:
1. Bandshell Driveway
2. Jaycee Park Master Plan
3. Big Walnut Sports Park—Land & Water Conservation Grant
4. Aquatics Center Face-Lift—painting support structures to water slide and diving

New Business
1. Ice Storm Damages — Director R. Weinschenk gave a report in regards to the
damage received following last week's ice storm. Many twigs, branches and
limbs were down in the park. We lost one entire tree and there are approximately
eight branches that will need to be address by a professional tree cutting services.

D & S Tree Service has already been alerted.
He also reported that two large limbs have fallen across the Albin Pond
Pathway and will be taken care of as soon as the ice melts. R.Weinschenk stated
his concern for safety, not wanting anyone operating a chainsaw while standing
on ice.
2. Storm Spotter's Class —R.Evans stated that he will send information in regards
to a Storm Spotter's Class that will be offered on February 23 at 7:00 p.m. and felt
the park crew should attend. Since many of our personnel members work out of
doors, this program may be beneficial to them.
Director's Report
1. Recreation Programming - Director R.Weinschenk turned the floor over to
Assistant Director T.Scott who gave a quick review of some of the upcoming
recreation programs. He included fliers for each program.
a. Brickmania Programs—Upcoming Brickmania Programs include:
i. Brickmania Valentine's Program — Wednesday, February 9th each
participant will receive a small Valentine Book kit, which will hold a
small wallet sized photo. Fee: $10.00.
ii. Brickmania: Lego Brick Building Workshop — The second of this
winter's building sessions will be held on Sunday, February 13 from
1:00-p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at City Hall. Fee: One handful of Legos or
financial contribution to purchase more Legos!
iii. Brickmania: Display Contest — Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 will
be the annual contest for children of all ages. Awards will be given for
Kits and Original "Create Your Own" displays. Judging will be done
at 7:00 p.m. with awards announced at 7:30 p.m.
b. Greencastle Walk & Talk Program — This program is designed to get
people out and about during the coldest month of the year. Offered from
February 1 to March 31, 8:00-10:00 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will
partner with DePauw University and utilize the DePauw University Indoor
Track and Tennis Facility. This program is open to active Seniors and Adults.
Fee: $25.00 per person, which will include an official walk and talk
identification badge, t-shirt, walking journal, water bottle, snack once a week
and a guest speaker once a month.
c. February is Chocolate Lover's Month — T.Scott presented a programming
idea for "husbands who haven't bought Valentine's Day gifts yet!" This
program will be completed as a partnership with the Putnam County Museum.
The program will tell the history of chocolate and the making of many
chocolate treats with a chocolate fountain. Cost per person is $20, which was
accepted by the board on a motion from T.Trigg, second by K.Thomas. All
Ayes.
d. Cyber Crimes Program — T.Scott also talked about a partnership with the
Putnam County Library and Greencastle Police Dept. that will target Senior
Citizens and the potential of being taken via the interne and computers. This
program will be a free service and held at the Library.

Monica Fennell presented a possible contact for an expanded programming
schedule. She suggested contacting the Consumer Protection Office of the
Attorney General's office. They have speakers who could be called,upon to
present different Cyber Crime prevention topics.
e. Tennis Program—T.Scott mentioned that he has made contact with a vendor
at the IPRA Conference who could put a new twist on the Adult Tennis
Program.
K.Thomas found this of interest and may be able to help organize a
Tennis Tournament as part of the July 4th weekend list of events.
f. Umpire's Clinic—both R.Evans and T.Trigg were interested in the possibility
of hosting an umpire's clinic. R.Weinschenk stated he had made contact with
the Indiana ASA Office and although they weren't able to hold one in
Greencastle at this time, were going to send the Umpire Clinics scattered
throughout the state of Indiana.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners will be held
Wednesday evening, March 2, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in Greencastle City Hall. The board
was reminded that they would be judging the Brickmania Contest at 7:00 p.m. with the
meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m.
