AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO, 1816-1960, REQUIRING THE
OWNERS OF REAL ESTATE IN THE CITE OF RICHMOND, INDIANA TO CUT
AND REMOVE WEEDS AND OTHER RANK VEGETATION GROWING THEREON;
PROVIDING IN CASE OF THEIR FAILURE, FOR SUCH CUTTING AND REMOVAL
BY THE CITY AND CONSTITUTING A LIEN UPON THE REAL ESTATE FOR
THE COST THEREON, AND PROVIDING FOR THE COLLECTION THEREOF, AND
ALSO PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF SAID ORDINANCE,
AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
THEREWITH.
WHEREAS, Section I of Ordinance No. 181601960 now reads:
The owners of lots, lands and parcels of ground within
the City shall, between June 15 and October 31 of'each yea,,~,
cut, remove and keep under contro a wee s, grasses and other
rank vegetation growing on their premises and on the alleys and
the street 'parks adjacent thereto. If any owner falls to cut
and remove such weeds and vegetation as provided herein within
five days after notification of the violation of this section
by the Board of Public Works and Safety, the city shall have
the right to cut and remove the sane, and charge the cost thereof
against the owner, and the cost together with the cost of col-
lecting the same shall constitute a lien upon the real estate
from which such weeds and vegetation were cut and removed. Any
person who fails to cut and remove such weeds and vegetation
within five days after notification of the violation of this
section by the Board of Public Works and Safety, shall upon 'con-
viction be fined not less than $10000 nor more than $50.00,
THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL- OF THE CITY OF
RICHMOND, INDIANA°
WHEREAS, Section I of said Ordinance should be amended for the
purpose of changing the inclusive dates stated therein as
follows:
The owners of lots, lands and parcels of ground within
the City shall, between May 1, and October 31 of each year,
cut, -emove and keep under control all wee&s, grasses and other
rank vegetation growing on their premises and on the alleys and
the street parks adjacent thereto. If any owner fails to cut
and remove such weeds and vegetation as provided herein within
five days after notification of the violation of this section
by the Board of Public Works and Safety, the city shall have the
right to cut and remove the same, and charge the cost thereof
against the owner, and the cost together with the cost of collec-
ting the same shal'1 constitute a 1fen-upon the real estate from
which such weeds and vegetation were cut and removed. Any person
who fails to cut and remove such weeds and vegetation within
five.days after notification of the violation of this section
by the Board of Public Works and Safety, shall upon conviction
be fined not less than $10.00 nor more than $50,00.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage by the Council, approval by the Mayor, and publica-
tion as required by law.
