HomeMy Public PortalAbout2475-1970 - Authorizing the City to make grants available for the transit systemORDINANCE NO. °�`I%� 1970 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE FURNISHING OF ASSISTANCE TO THE RICHMOND CITY LINES, INC., BY MAKING GRANTS IN A&D TO SAID RICHMOND CITY LINES, INC., THE MASS TRANS- PORTATION SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA; AND AUTHORIZING AND EMPOWERING THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA TO EXECUTE FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY AN AGREEMENT TO THAT EFFECT, ALL PURSUANT TO THE "URBAN MASS TRANSPORTATION ACT OF 1965". WHEREAS, the Company operates an urban mass transportation system in the City of Richmond, Indiana, which said system is unable to render ade- quate service in the City and,has applied to the City for assistance under the "Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1965", and, WHEREAS, the Common Council has caused certain studies to be made as provided in the "Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1965". WHEREAS, the City has determined that the financial position of the system is such that it is unable to render adequate service within the City of Richmond, Indiana, and that the establishment and maintenance of an urban mass transportation system rendering adequate service within the City of Richmond, Indiana, is essential to relieve traffic congestion, for proper utilization of factories, stores, schools, warehouses, commercial and other places where members of the general public congregate, and is necessary to the welfare of the general public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, that: SECTION 1. That the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana has determined to make grants in aid to the Richmond City Lines, Inc., and does hereby confirm by the ordinance the proposed Agreement between the City and the Richmond City Lines, Inc., providing for the payment of money by the City to the Richmond City Lines, Inc. , all as is set forth and agreed to by the proposed Agreement, a copy of which is attached hereto, made a part hereof and marked Exhibit "A". SECTION 2. That the Board of Public Works and Safety is hereby empowered and authorized to execute on behalf of the City said Agreement and to deliver an executed copy of the same to the Richmond City Lines, Inc. SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval by the Mayor, and publication as required by law. The foregoing Ordinance PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Common Council of Richmond, Indiana, this ap day of 1970.
