Artist Reception for “Beautiful Vistas: Loudoun and Afar” Art
Exhibit at Leesburg Town Hall on October 6, 2017
Paintings by Anne Marshall Block will be on display through
November 2017.
Leesburg, VA (September 28, 2017) – The Leesburg Commission on Public Art will host an artist
reception for Anne Marshall Block on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at
the Leesburg Town Hall (25 West Market Street), as part of downtown Leesburg’s monthly First
Friday celebration of the arts. Willie White, popular local musician and song writer, will perform
at the reception.
“Beautiful Vistas: Loudoun and Afar,” an exhibition of paintings by Ms. Block, focusing on
outdoor vistas, opened on September 1, 2017, and will be on display through November 2017.
Twenty years ago, Anne's lifelong love of the outdoors fostered her budding interest in art.
After her first class with artist Dodie Petro, and many years of study with Penny Hauffe, her
passion for paint continued to grow.
“The tranquility and unique beauty of the Loudoun were my first inspirations to paint. I'm
always ready to capture my adventures hiking and biking on canvas,” Anne says. “I love to work
outdoors and I I especially enjoy the challenge of depicting atmospheric changes, sunrises,
sunsets, and rainbows.”
Anne works primarily in oils. During the fall and spring, you can often find her painting in the
gardens of historic Oatlands, near Leesburg. In addition to her local works, Anne takes her love
of art with her when she travels. She's painted everything from the California coastline to
scenes from Italy and New Zealand. She uses a wide variety of vibrant colors, and her travel has
given her the chance to use the blues and purples of the Canadian mountains, as well as the
reds and oranges of the American southwest, in addition to the beautiful greens of Loudoun.
