Individual 1st Place Fukudah Masmimo Public Input Family Fun Run- Sarah Hanlon was present to let the board know that the Fun Run date has been moved from this fall, October 12 to next spring, April 12 with a 9:30 a.m. registration, 10:00 a.m. start. It will still be held on the Big Walnut Sports Park Loop Trail. On a motion from C.Merrell, second by T.Trigg the change was passed. All Ayes. Minutes On a motion from B.Miller, second by C.Merrell, the minutes from the regular meeting held Thursday, September 5, 2013 were approved as presented. All Ayes. Monthly Finances On a motion from T.Trigg, second by B.Miller, the monthly claims were approved as presented. All Ayes. 411) Special Park Use Requests -None 1 Old Business 1. Upcoming Events — Director R.Weinschenk reminded the board that the month of October will be a busy one in the parks &recreation department. Many events will be held which include ... a. Saturday, October 5 - "Protect Your Head Jam!" at Skatepark b. Saturday, October 5 -Back Road Bike Tour leaving from Jaycee Park c. Sunday, October 6 -All-Star Coed Softball Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry Fundraiser at Robe-Ann Park softball field d. Saturday, October 19 -Dance Workshop Softball Tournament Fundraiser at Robe-Ann Park softball field e. Saturday, October 26 -Pink Halloween Fun Run at Robe-Ann Park\ f. Saturday& Sunday, October 26-27—"Halloween Howl" Coed Softball Tournament Millpond Health Campus Fundraiser at Robe-Ann Park softball field 2. 2011 Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant Project — Director R.Weinschenk gave a report on the BWSP improvement project. a. Land Appraisal—the DNR has reviewed the appraisals, but has asked for additional information. I have talked to City Engineer Garth Hughes who is helping gather the information. b. Design — met with Ms. Jessica Hartman from Civil Engineering Consultants to review DNR recommended changes to the design. 3. 2012 Land &Water Conservation Fund Grant a. Memorandum of Understanding — City Attorney Laurie Hardwick drafted the Memorandum of Understanding which outline the working • relationship between the Greencastle Civic League and the City of Greencastle in regards to the Splash Park portion of the grant. She has requested a possible special meeting later in the month to sign the agreement. b. Design — As soon as the M. of U. is complete, we will move on to the selection of a design firm. 4. Greencastle Youth Basketball Program - Director R.Weinschenk laid out a plan to offer the basketball program again, after cancelling last season due to competition which split registrations with the park league. He reminded the group that two years ago we drew approximately 270 Greencastle youth into our program with only 68 registrations last fall. Weinschenk met with Greencastle Community School Corporation officials, including Superintendent Dawn Puckett, High School Principal Russ Hessler and new Athletic Director Greg Hill where he received their support for the program. Since the program wasn't included in the department's spring schedule of activities he would need the board to approve the program fees. He presented: $50 per player ($55 for any late registrations) in grades 1-6, $35.00 per player in the "My First Shot" Basketball Program for kindergarteners, with sponsors paying $120.00 per team. On a motion from T.Trigg, second by B.Miller, the board approved the request with proposed fees. All Ayes. • 2 New Business • 1. Iseman's Painting—Director R.Weinschenk presented a proposal for services from Rick Iseman of Iseman's Painting to paint the floors inside the Greencastle Aquatics Center. The project will include acid washing the entry way and the two changing restrooms; and then applying an epoxy floor coating. Labor and materials will run $1,900.00. On a motion from C.Merrell, second by T.Trigg, the board approved having Iseman's Painting redo the floors in the aquatics center. All Ayes. 2. BWSP Picnic Tables—T.Trigg asked that the tables at the Big Walnut Sports Park be inspected. He reported that one table has a bent leg. 3. Make Your Halloween a Success—Assistant Director T.Scott presented a programming idea that wasn't included in the spring schedule. This program would present over 60 ideas on how to make your Halloween a success, with some of the activities completed in the class. He requested the board approve a$10 fee. On a motion from T.Trigg, second by B.Miller, the board approved the program and fee. All Ayes. Director's Re ort Director R.Weinschenk presented his monthly Director's Report, which happenings from the past month. Highlightsoutlined 1. SammyTerry included: — Weinschenk report that on Saturday evening, September 28th, the band"Redzilla"followed by the horror comedian Sammy Terry drew approximately 800 people to Robe-Ann Park. There were people of all ages; grandparents, adults, kids and grandkids. Sammy Terry did a really nice job with his story telling and 40 skits. Weinschenk stated overall, it was a neat presentation. Weinschenk met him and secured his autograph which he shared with the board. Sammy Terry expressed interest in coming back. 2. Adult Softball Survey— Weinschenk shared a survey received from the Greenwood Parks & Recreation Department, which outlined some of the concerns we are receiving through the adult softball program, many of which have also affected the Greencastle programs.
