Town Assists Exeter HOA in Addressing New Sinkhole
Drilling work to determine the extent of the sinkhole is in process.
Leesburg, VA (October 11, 2017) – On Tuesday morning, a resident on Jared Square NE, in the
Exeter neighborhood in northeast Leesburg, noticed a large depression in the pavement of
Jared Square near the intersection with Fieldstone Drive . Upon investigation, Town staff
determined that the depression is a sinkhole. At that time, the depression measured
approximately 30 feet by 30 feet and 14 inches deep.
In consultation with Exeter Homeowners Association board members and management
company representatives, Town staff have arranged for geotechnical analysis of the sinkhole by
General Excavation and GeoConcepts Engineering. This analysis will consist drilling 12 test holes
to determine the sinkhole’s width and depth. Drilling is expected to be completed on Tuesday
afternoon or Wednesday morning, with results delivered to staff on Wednesday.
Currently, staff plans to begin excavation of the sinkhole on Friday, October 13, 2017. Once the
geotechnical analysis is completed and staff have reviewed the results, the Town will release
additional information about plans to address the sinkhole.
