HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 06:082 ~e£íDrU±tü1t üf ±~£ ~úrúu£~ úf ([lnrt£rd1 ~L :JJ- No I #06-82 Date of Adoption Fp-hru;:¡ry 16, 2006 SUPPORTING S-695 - DOG LICENSE FEES WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret ("Borough") along with many other municipalities struggle to cover the costs of their statutorily required animal control responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the current maximum statutory prescribed licensing fee amount does not take into account the individual township's hardships in covering the costs of their animal control responsibilities; and -, WHEREAS, the Borough finds that it needs to cover the costs for the aforementioned services with other municipal revenue; and WHEREAS, 8-695 is presentJy pending before the New Jersey State Legislature and would provide for the elimination of the statutory maximum fee that can be charged to a dog owner for a dog license and allows the municipality to set its own fee; and WHEREAS, 5-695 has been introduced to correct this unfairness and to protect the municipal government's treasury from having to cover the costs and is worthy of passage~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the Borough ofCarteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey as follows: 1. That the New Jersey State Legislature is hereby urged to move expeditiously and pass 5-695 that provides for the elimination of the current maximum statutory prescribed licensing fee. 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to The Honorable Jon Corzine, Governor, Senator Joseph Vitale, Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Assemblyman Joseph Vas members of the New Jersey Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
