URGING THE NEW JERSEY LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT S-139
WHEREAS, the safe operation of personal watercraft is important to protect the
health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Borough of Carteret,
("Borough"), which is located on the Arthur Kill Waterway; and
WHEREAS, 8-139 is presently pending before the New Jersey State Legislature
and would prohibit the operation of personal watercraft above minimum headway
within 100 feet of: residential dwelling units, beaches with swimming areas that
have boundaries marked by buoys or signs, the shoreline or persons in the water
and authorizes the State, county and municipal police to enforce the laws
governing the operation of personal watercraft; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey as follows:
1. That the New Jersey State Legislature is hereby urged to
move expeditiously and pass S-139 that prohibits the
operation of personal watercraft above minimum headway
within 100 feet of: residential dwelling units, beaches with
swimming areas that have boundaries marked by buoys or
signs, the shoreline or persons in the water and authorizes
the St'ilte, county and municipal police to enforce the laws
governing the operation ofpersonal watercraft.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to The
Honorable Jon Corzine, Governor, Senator Joseph Vitale,
Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Assemblyman Joseph Vas
members of the New Jersey Senate Budget and
Appropriations Committee and the' New Jersey State
League of Municipalities. '
