HomeMy Public PortalAbout1971-04-24 Meeting110 April 24, 1971 The Council of Bal Harbour Village met Saturday, April 24, 1971, at 9:30 A.M. in the Village Hall. Present were: Messrs. Beatty, Brush, Printup, Taplin and Villeneuve. Also present were: Fred W. Maley, Village Manager; Mary T. Wetterer, Village Clerk; and Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney. On motion of Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mr. Beatty, and unan- imously voted the minutes of the previous meetings of March 27, 1971 and April 19, 1971, were approved as submitted. The Council considered the application of Charter Limon - Nine Service, Inc. for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. After discussion on motion of Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mr. Villeneuve and unanimously voted the application was denied. Mr. Charles Bogdahn of the Americana Hotel appeared before the Council to assure them that the hotel was working to comply with certain requests of the Fire Chief to install fire protec- tion devices in portions of the building and that they were continuing to investigate means of improving their parking situ- ation. It was moved by Mr. Beatty, seconded by Mr. Brush, and unanimously voted that inasmuch as the Americana was working to correct these problems that they be allowed to use the garage space for convention purposes through December 1971. Mr. Maley told the Council that the sidewalk bid for the west side of Collins Avenue and 96th Street had been extended to June 15th. Mr. Douglass Bournique of Compressed Concrete Corp. appeared to inform the Council of the financial status of his company. After discussion it was the opinion of the Council that the matter of the sidewalk would be definitely decided at the May meeting. The Council then temporarily adjourned to sit as the Pension Board. After reconvening the Council considered the uniform hotel and apartment sign. It was the opinion of the Council that the Manager should have the.gi�n face and lettering reversed and the frame in black instead of aluminum. Mr. Maley said Edward Stone's office would be down to check the sign and that he would see to the changes as suggested. After the sign type is finalized, Mr. Maley and Mr. Taplin will take it to the Resort Association for their approval. Mr. Maley informed the members that the Corps of Engineers April 24, 1971 is not waiting for Dade County's endorsement of the beach re- storation plan and was going ahead with the processing. He said there seems to be some discussion over the extension of the south jetty at Baker's Haulover. As to the public access to the beach Mr. Taplin agreed to take the matter up with his Board of Direc- tors and Mr. Printup said he would see the Board of Governors at the Bal Harbour Club. The Council reviewed the financial statements for the first six month's operation. On motion of Mr. Brush, seconded by Mr. Taplin, and unanimously voted the audit was filed for audit. It was moved by Mr. Beatty, seconded by Mr. Taplin and unan- imously voted that a suitable Resolution be prepared by the Vil- lage Attorney honoring Mr. Herbert White. Mr. Maley told the Council that soil borings indicated that the maintenance superintendent's house would have to be placed on piling. On motion of Mr. Brush, seconded by Mr. Taplin, and unanimously voted Mr. Maley was authorized to spend up to $1,200.00 for this work. There being no further business before the meeting, on motion of Mr. Villeneuve, seconded by Mr. Taplin, the meeting was ad- journed at 11:35 A.M. Beatty, Brush, Printup, Taplin and Villeneuve. Also presentc were Fred W. Maley, Village Manager; Mary T. Wetterer, Village Clerk; and Thomas Britton, representing Mr. Ander- son as Village Attorney. Mr. Printup told those present that he and Mr. Beatty and Mr. Maley had appeared before the House Appropriations Committee sub- committee for Public Works and read the statement they made before the committee requesting that the Federal Government contribute 60% May 29, 1971
