Vanessa R. Maddox Elected to Leesburg Town Council
Swearing-in ceremony for Council Member-elect Maddox will be on Monday,
November 13, 2017.
Leesburg, VA (November 9, 2017) – In Tuesday’s special
election, Vanessa R. Maddox was elected to fill the
Leesburg Town Council seat vacated by Kelly Burk when
she took office as mayor in January. Maddox will take
office on November 13, 2017, and her term will expire on
December 31, 2018. Maddox is the first African American
woman to be elected to the Leesburg Town Council.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, Council Member-
elect Maddox began her career in politics and information
technology as an after-school intern on Capitol Hill when
she was in the 11th grade. Since then, she has worked for
the U.S. Congress, federal government agencies and
federal contractors in the private sector. In 2008, she
founded V.R. Maddox Consulting, a Certified Virginia
SWaM (Small, Woman and Minority-owned) business
specializing in social media education and integration,
new business “bootstrapping,” employment recruiting, and professional development. Maddox
previously served on the Leesburg Economic Development Commission and the Leesburg
Technology & Communications Commission. She and her family have lived Leesburg since 2004.
“Never underestimate a Mom on a mission,” Maddox says in regard to her election to Council.
“We are destined to change the world.”
A formal swearing-in ceremony will be held for Council Member-elect Maddox on Monday,
November 13, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. in the lower level of Town Hall, prior to that evening’s Council
Work Session.
