Leesburg to Hold Special Election to Fill Town Council Vacancy
Created by Ken Reid’s Resignation
Town Council will not make an interim appointment.
Leesburg, VA (November 15, 2017) – On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, Leesburg Town Council
Member Ken Reid tendered his resignation from the council, effective December 1, 2017 .
According to Council Member Reid’s letter, he has taken a position out of the area and his new
work commitments prevent him from devoting the time necessary to his council duties.
At the regular Council Meeting that evening, the Leesburg Town Council agreed to hold a
special election to fill the vacancy created by Council Member Reid’s resignat ion as quickly as
possible. The council directed staff to request that the Loudoun County General Registrar
schedule the election for February 6, 2018. Staff are awaiting a response from the General
Registrar’s office.
The council decided not to make an interim appointment to fill the vacant seat until the spe cial
election.
Council Member Reid was most recently elected to the Leesburg Town Council in November
2016, and his current term ends on December 31, 2020. The person elected to fill the vacancy
will serve until the end of the term.
